City of Springfield Phone Poll

This Springfield phone poll was administered prior to a 2017 vote on an issue of a .39 percent earned income tax in order to prevent the closure of fire services and the delay of road pavements. The first questions are designed to assess how much Springfield residents know about the city and its economic state. Following this, the poll administrator would read a statement explaining the purpose of the city’s cash reserves, and would then read questions about awareness of the cash reserves running out. Finally, the poll administrator would read a statement regarding the proposed .39 percent earned income tax increase and ask questions regarding its popularity with Springfield residents.

The tax was approved by Springfield voters in May 2017. The tax took effect on July 1, 2017 and will remain in effect until December 31, 2022.
