These data measure the total number of people under the age of 18 who were living in poverty within the past 12 months in the four zip codes of Springfield, Clark County, Ohio, and the United States.

The federal poverty threshold for each household size is determined each year by the federal government. For example, for a one-person household in 2017, the poverty threshold was set at $12,060; this amount increases by $4180 for each person living in the house after the first.

  • Child poverty rates are much higher in Springfield compared to the rest of the state, as the rate stays above 37.8 percent while the Ohio percentage never reaches 25 percent*.
  • The percentage of children in poverty in Springfield has stayed about the same from 2011-2017.
  • Poverty effects children on the Southern side of Springfield more than the Northern part of Springfield*.

*Denotes a statistically significant finding with 90% confidence, the ACS standard.

All data comes from U.S. Census Bureau.

This information comes from the American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year estimates on Selected Economic Characteristics.

These percentages were made using “Percentage of families and people whose income in the past 12 months is at or below the poverty level”, subcategory “All people”, subcategory “Under 18 years”.
